Is there an environmental constraint here — and do you need an assessment?

Enter an address anywhere in Canada. Groundwork Environment pulls the contaminated sites nearby, the wetlands, flood zones, and protected or conserved land a site sits in, the species-at-risk potential habitat, and nearby watercourses — federal and, where ingested, provincial — and tells you in plain language whether an environmental assessment or permit is likely required before the project proceeds. Every record links back to its own government source.

Coverage varies by domain, not just by province. Contaminated sites, protected areas, species habitat, and hydrography draw on national federal datasets; wetlands coverage is currently partial (see /coverage/). A “not indicated” result means nothing was found in the records held — never a determination that no environmental constraint is present, and never a substitute for an environmental site assessment or advice from a qualified person.

Runs alongside Groundwork, or on its own.

Groundwork Environment shares an account and a login with Groundwork, the consultation-data product, and with Groundwork Heritage — so a developer already running a Groundwork parcel report can add the environmental screen on the same parcel. You can also subscribe to Environment alone.
