Free to screen. One flat subscription for the report.

The screening tool answers the four questions on screen for any site in Canada, free, no account. A subscription is for the parts you hand to a decision-maker or a reviewer: the dated, cited, exportable Screening Report, saved-area monitoring, and direct API / MCP access — unlimited while subscribed.

Coverage varies by domain, not just by province. Contaminated sites, protected areas, species-at-risk potential habitat, and hydrography draw on national federal datasets covering all of Canada. Wetlands coverage is currently partial — the source dataset itself excludes three jurisdictions, and not every jurisdiction it does cover has been ingested yet. See /coverage/ for the exact breakdown.

Already use Groundwork?

Add Environment to your existing account.

Groundwork is the identity and billing hub for the MichifAI product family. If you already have a Groundwork account — the consultation-data product, or Groundwork Heritage — you can add the Environment entitlement to it from your account page: one login, one bill, and a developer already running a Groundwork parcel report can screen the same parcel for environmental constraints. You can also subscribe to Environment on its own.

Built to automate

A real API, not just a dashboard.

One credential unlocks the screening and report endpoints, so your own tools can pull the verdict and the underlying records directly. The same access is available as an MCP server — point an AI assistant at it with the same key.

Common questions

A few things worth knowing

Which parts of Canada are covered?
All of Canada for contaminated sites (federal-custodianship sites only — see below), protected and conserved areas, species-at-risk potential habitat, and national hydrography. Wetlands coverage is currently the Canadian National Wetlands Inventory's shipped subset — see /coverage/ for the exact jurisdiction list. More jurisdictions and deeper provincial layers are on the roadmap.
What does "federal-custodianship sites only" mean for contaminated sites?
The Federal Contaminated Sites Inventory covers sites the federal government is responsible for — it is not a general floor for contamination anywhere in Canada. Provincial contaminated-sites registries would be needed for full coverage and are being added over time.
Is the free screening limited or a teaser?
No. The on-screen verdict, the nearby records with distance, the areas the site sits in, and the species-habitat and watercourse signals are all shown in full, free, for any Canadian site. What's paid is the exportable, dated, cited report with regulatory guidance and a coverage statement, plus monitoring and direct API / MCP access.
How does billing work?
A recurring monthly subscription through Groundwork, which handles identity and billing for the whole product family. Manage or cancel it from your account page.
Can I hold Environment without Groundwork?
Yes. A Groundwork account can carry the Environment entitlement, the Groundwork entitlement, the Heritage entitlement, or any combination — a customer can hold Environment on its own.
What happens if I cancel?
The report export, monitoring, API, and MCP access stop when the subscription lapses. The free screening tool is never affected.
